Top Ten Books of 2020

I put up a poll on Instagram stories to see if you would rather see a top 5 or a top 10 favorite books of 2020, and there was a clear preference for a top 10. I have that list ready for you as well as a complete list of all 53 books I read or listened to in 2020 grouped by genre.

I read 49 in 2019 and 31 in 2018. I have a very simple reason as to why that number is going up: my kids are getting older. If you happen to have little ones, let me just tell you that I was not reading books when I had babies and toddlers around. Maybe barely. Maybe a few. So if you are in that season and you’re a reader, just know that your time is coming!

And now in no particular order…

My Top 10 Books in 2020

  1. How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi**
  2. Grit by Angela Duckworth**
  3. Dare To Lead by Brene Brown, PhD**
  4. Fair Play by Eve Rodsky**
  5. The Scent Keeper by Erica Bauermeister**
  6. The Dutch House by Ann Patchett**
  7. The Guest List by Lucy Foley**
  8. Whisper Network by Chandler Baker**
  9. The Most Fun We Ever Had by Claire Lombardo**
  10. Someone We Know by Shari Lapena**

Non-Fiction: Memoir, etc.

The One Book I Quit Before Finishing

  1.  Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker** – It was actually super interesting but it turns out reading about sleep just made me too tired to go on, so I had to scrap it. If you’ve read or plan to read it please let me know what you think. I’m genuinely curious!

All links to books are affiliate links. That means I may get a small commission if you make a purchase with the link. Think of it as a finder’s fee that you don’t pay for. Pretty cool for both of us and helps keep this blog chugging!

BUT if you see “*” next to a title then it is also available on the free library app, Hoopla. “**” means that it’s on the free library app, Libby. You can also get audiobooks for under $5 for 6 months by joining Audible for the first time. I occasionally use Audible, but almost every book I read or listen to is through the library. Libraries rock.

You can read quick reviews of all the books listed on my Instagram highlight, Books 2020. You can see 2018 and 2019 as well. Plus, you’ll see a new highlight for 2021 shortly!

Let me know what your favorite books of 2020 were! Drop a note in the comments or chat over on Instagram!
